Groundhog's Day
Barnet Park, Kinston, NC
Rain or Shine! No Wimps! No Whiners!
Thanks to everyone who played and sponsored this year's Ice Bowl. We had 52 players, more than 100lbs. of goods for the SPCA and ICOR and a grand total of $823.89 to the SPCA.
Just a note. Christian and I just dropped off the check and food to the SPCA. I wish each any every player and sponsor could have been with us when we handed over the check and goods. They were quite surprised and appreciative. Aside from the usual issues of running on a shoe-string budget, they're dealing with vandalism to the van they use to transport animals, and didn't have funds on hand for the repair. It sounded like the Ice Bowl money came along at a good time. These folks work really hard without many resources. If you get the chance to help them out, it will be appreciated and it will make you feel good. Thanks again for being a part of this year's Ice Bowl.

Official totals for all 6 divisions posted here.
And check out some of the photos, too.
This is our third annual Ice Bowl charity disc golf event, and we're working hard to make it the most fun yet. Last year's event was a blast and included a pig pickin'. This year, the pig pickin' is back, along with a day of great disc golf fun. Some players have threatened to wear loud Hawaiian shirts, too. That might be a good idea, if you have one ;-)

Format: 2 rounds of disc golf. There will be CTP's. There will be an optional Ace Pool. There will be an optional 50/50 Cash bag CTP. There will be lots of fun.
Divisions: The actual divisions offered will vary depending on the players present. We will have anything from a recreational division for casual first-time competiors up to an open division for the pros. Please note, since this is a charity event, there will be no cash payouts.
Registration is available online and will be available the morning of the event. The fee is $15.00. We also ask you to consider bringing donations of dry goods for our charities.
The Charities: This year, the proceeds from the event will go to Lenoir County SPCA, Inc. We will also be taking donations of dry goods for Kinston ICOR, the local food bank. Donations of supplies for the SPCA will also be collected. Please click here for details and the ICOR and SPCA wish lists.
Ice Bowl Fun Tip: Bring food or supplies for either of our charities and get an extra throw at the Innova Traveler portable basket!
Player's Pack: The first 60 players will get to pick an Ice Bowl hot-stamp disc, and a mini. This will be first-come, first served the day of the event, so sign in early for the best selection. We have a selection of weights and models this year, including Innova and Discraft discs. The Player's Pack also includes a Pig Pickin' ticket, a 6-month membership with DiscGolfU.com and one chance to win an Innova DisCatcher Traveler portable goal. Thanks to our sponsors, more stuff is being added all the time.
Basket Toss: Someone's going home with a brand new Innova Traveler portable disc golf goal. Every player's pack will include a ticket for a throw at the basket. You can buy additional throws, 3 5 for $5.00, and you can win additional throws throughout the first round in the morning. We'll throw for the basket after the second round while we're adding everything up.
The basket was provided by sponsor Disc Golf U. Each player also gets a 6-month DiscGolfU.com membership. DiscGolfU.com is a handicapping and disc golf league play service.
Hot Lunch On-Site: We're going to be offering a hot lunch at the course again this year. For a $5.00 donation, you get soup & crackers, cookies, and a soft drink or water. Last year, Chef Skip made chili. This year could be chili or a hearty vegetable soup. Whatever Skip decides, it will be great. And 100% of your donation will go to the SPCA.
Pig Pickin': This year's event includes a pig pickin' dinner following the awards festivities. We've got the same great cooking crew back this year. You won't want to miss it.
Please note that the pig pickin'has been provided by some very generous donors and does not detract from the total we give to our charities.
